First published in 1920, Paper Magic is Will Blyth‘s collection of tricks, puzzles, toys and models in which paper is the only, or principal, material required.
The book is divided into two parts. Paper Folding begins with simple folds and progresses through a wide range of models and constructions, including hats, boats, a flying aeroplane, working bellows, a puzzle box, a windmill and a paper kettle.
The second part, Paper Conjuring, turns to magic and includes Ribbons of India, Magic Purse, Bewildering Tissues, Paper Tearing Act, Spirit Calculator, Thought Reading and Mind Divination.
Throughout the book, Blyth gives clear instructions supported by progressive diagrams. He also includes advice on presenting the tricks, with suggestions for patter and performance.
The Hey Presto edition was first published in 2023 and presents the original 1920 book complete and unabridged in pocketbook format. The illustrations have been remastered, with amendments to the text for clarity, together with additional historical material on Will Blyth.
